Stoess Manufacturing is researching and developing a new concept in rod weeders. Our goal is to have the product available for sale through our farm equipment dealers in the Spring of 2008.
The new concept has developed into a modular approach consisting of 3 modules:
The frame module is a rigid frame of square tubing which runs parallel to the ground.
The power module attaches to the frame module and can be moved forward or back to position the rod in relation to the wheels. All the ground parts are already stock parts for existing weeders. Each weeder has its own hydraulic motor and transfers power to the rod with a 20-50 chain.
The wheel modules are also attached to the front and/or rear frame members. Research has found that there are about as many ideas about wheels as there are farmers. Do you run wheels in front and behind the rod, only in front, or only in back? Should they be pneumatic or steel? Should they be flat or curved, concave or curved convex? Should they be rigid or castor? With our modular system, each farmer can design what works best for their own needs.
The proto-type has about 1200 acres of field testing with a number of farmers and in different field conditions.
Next spring we hope to have a few dealers rent the still developing rod weeder. We will continue to take feed-back and implement useful ideas as we can.

THANK YOU! We at Stoess Manufacturing appreciate your interest.
